The Allergy Suite

Don't Manage
Your Asthma Alone

Your Path to Better Breathing Starts Here

At The Allergy Suite in Novi, we provide expert diagnosis and management of asthma for both adults and children. Asthma is a chronic condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath

Because asthma often overlaps with allergies, a thorough allergy and pulmonary evaluation can make a significant difference in long-term control.

Why Should
You See An Allergist For Asthma?

You should consider seeing an allergist if you experience:

  • Frequent coughing or wheezing
  • Shortness of breath during exercise or at night
  • Symptoms that worsen during certain seasons, after exposure to dust, animals, or mold
  • Poor control despite using inhalers or daily medication

Many people don’t realize that asthma and allergies often fall under the same umbrella of conditions called atopy — meaning a genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases such as asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis. Identifying and treating the allergic component of asthma can lead to better symptom control, fewer flare-ups, and less reliance on medication.

Allergy Testing and Asthma Connection

The Asthma Allergy Connection

Because allergies are among the most common triggers for asthma, we frequently perform allergy testing as part of your initial asthma evaluation.

On the same day as your first visit, we often provide:

  • Skin Prick Testing – to identify sensitivities to environmental allergens such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and mold
  • Intradermal Testing – for more detailed evaluation if your initial test is negative but your history suggests an allergic trigger

By pinpointing your specific triggers, we can develop a targeted management plan that may include environmental control, medication adjustments, or allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots).

During Your Visit

At The Allergy Suite, every asthma evaluation begins with obtaining an objective measurement of your airway function. Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT): measures lung function for patients with asthma or breathing concerns.

Our staff will walk you through the process step-by-step to make it simple and comfortable:

  1. Preparation: You’ll be seated comfortably and use a device called a spirometer, which measures how much air you can inhale and exhale, and how quickly.
  2. Baseline Test: You’ll take a deep breath and blow out as hard and fast as you can into the device.
  3. Bronchodilator Phase: In some cases, you may be given an inhaled medication to see how your lungs respond.
  4. Results Review: Your allergist will interpret your results and discuss how they compare to expected values for your age and size.

This test helps us determine whether your symptoms are due to asthma, how severe it is, and how well your current treatments are working.

Once testing is completed, we review your results in detail and develop a customized management plan, which may include allergen avoidance, medication optimization, and immunotherapy when appropriate. All of this happens during the same visit!
